Interchange concepts

A station should connect more than trains.

Proposed stations are framed as accessible transfer points within the surrounding neighbourhood and transport system. No site is confirmed.

Station principles

Arrive, transfer and continue.

Accessible by design

Step-free movement, clear information and inclusive public space would need to be treated as core requirements.

Multimodal by default

Interchange planning should consider existing rail, bus, minibus taxi, walking, cycling and appropriate pick-up access.

Part of the place

Station planning should respond to local streets, community needs, safety, public space and suitable development patterns.

Proposed interchange areas

Concept material may refer to Athlone, Century City, central Cape Town, the airport and other regional nodes. These are areas for investigation, not property decisions or approved station locations.

Evidence before design commitment

Feasibility would need to test passenger access, transfer demand, operational requirements, engineering constraints, environmental and social effects, land implications and affordability. Community and institutional engagement would be essential.
